Back to School- Parent Information
Kindergarten Parent Information~
Please read the Holmes Parent Handbook for school policies. Here is some additional information to help answer some of your questions as your child starts Kindergarten.
School Hours: 8:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. (Tardy bell rings at 8:50)
**Before school, students line up on the Kindergarten lines towards the back side of the building. I will meet students there each morning when the bell rings.
Transportation: Information about bus routes can be found on the school website. Please make sure your child knows how he/she is getting home each day. I will follow the transportation plan you return at the beginning of the school year but if there is a change in the routine you must send a note with your child or phone the office. If there is no note or phone call to the office, your child will be going home the way it is designated on the transportation plan. It is much easier to keep track of each student if they have a note in the morning to let me know his/her plans have changed. Thank you!
Hot Lunch and Milk: You can deposit money into your child's hot lunch account online. If you send in lunch money, please send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on the front. The cost for a lunch or milk is deducted from your account each time your child buys a lunch. Your child does have an option of bringing a cold lunch and purchasing milk.
Snack Time: We will have two snack times each day. In the morning, students will eat a healthy snack that is brought from home. In the afternoon, we will have a group snack that is provided by parents donations each month.
Recess: We will go outside daily, weather permitting. If for some reason your child must stay inside, please see the parent handbook.
Illness: if your child is sick please call the office at 846-5504 ext. 2200 to let us know.
Volunteers: A sign-up sheet will be available. I welcome your help in our classroom. I will begin volunteers after our first few weeks of school. If you would like to do projects at home, I will have projects available and appreciate your willingness to donate your time. ALL VOLUNTEERS AND PEOPLE ATTENDING FIELD TRIPS AND PARTIES MUST HAVE AN APPROVED VOLUNTEER FORM ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE. YOU MUST COMPLETE A NEW FORM EACH YEAR. THESE FORMS SHOULD BE TURNED IN ASAP OR NO LESS THAN 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE EVENT.
Homework/Newsletters: Please be sure to check school bags every evening for newsletters, information and homework.
Please spend 10-20 minutes a night reading to and with your child every night, this is one of the best ways to develop his/her reading skills. I will e-mail newsletters to update you on what we are studying.
Star of the Week: Children will have a special week to share their “star” qualities. A note will be sent home listing the date and information for your child’s week.
Book Orders: Book orders are a great way to develop a home library. I will send home the first order in September.
Classroom Parties: A sign-up sheet will be available. I appreciate your help! Anybody attending a party MUST have an approved volunteer form on file in the office, this includes grandparents!
Birthdays: We love to celebrate birthdays! Your child is welcome to bring in a birthday treat for snack time. Summer birthdays can be celebrated at the “half birthday” time or during May/June. Birthday party invitations cannot be delivered at school unless the whole class is invited, this helps eliminate hurt feelings.
